About the Author:

Lawrence C. Smith, Jr., PhD is a Professor of Economics at Louisiana Tech University. He received his doctorate from the University of Mississippi. In his distinguished career, Dr. Smith has made significant academic contributions in teaching, research, and service. In 1999 he was selected as the first Fellow of the Academy of Economics and Finance. Dr. Smith's accomplishments include numerous professional journal articles, books, and professional meeting presentations. Among the journals in which he has published are the following: Journal of Economic Education, Journal of Economics and Finance, Southwestern Economic Review, Journal of Real Estate Appraisal and Economics, and Oil, Gas & Energy Quarterly. Dr. Smith pioneered use of spreadsheet software (e.g. Excel) for economic analysis and published the first article on the subject in Journal of Economic Education in 1988.

L. Murphy Smith. Dr. L. Murphy Smith is a Professor in the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. Dr. Smith's accomplishments include numerous professional journal articles, research grants, books, and professional meeting presentations in the U.S. and abroad. His major research interests are information technology, ethics, and international trade. His work has been cited in various news media, including Fortune, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal. He serves on the editorial boards of several journals, including Advances in International Accounting, Journal of Information Systems, and Teaching Business Ethics.

Katherine Taken Smith. Dr. Katherine T. Smith has served on the faculties at the University of Mississippi and Louisiana Tech University. She has authored numerous professional journal articles and served on the editorial boards of five national journals. Dr. Smith has authored seven books, including The Bottom Line is Betrayal (http://www.iolbv.com/murphy/novels/), an educational novel that has been described as an "instructional thriller" and innovative way to present business concepts and issues to students.

Michael I. Duke is a Professor of Economics at Blinn College. His teaching career goes back to 1978. Professor Duke has taught courses on economics principles, microeconomics, macroeconomics, comparative economic systems, and theory of leadership. From 1978 to 1981, he taught micro and macro economics at the United States Military Academy at West Point and served as the director of the Principles of Economics Course. He has published in History of Political Economy. He is a member of the Blinn Professional Association.
