9780099493778: Second Lives

About the Author:

In 1981 Tim Guest was taken by his mother to a Suffolk commune, modelled on the teachings of the Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. Tim, or Yogesh as he was re-named, spent the rest of his childhood in communes in Oregon, Pune and Cologne. But after the Bhagwan's arrest in 1985, Tim started a new existence in North London, where he lives now.

From AudioFile:

Second Life is the main virtual world Guest describes in this discussion of virtual worlds and online games. Inhabitants and visitors to these virtual worlds create their own identities, in some cases earn real-world money, and create and act out fantasies of every type. Paul Michael Garcia's narration is conversational as he takes on the persona of Guest. Garcia is engaged in a laid-back sort of way but is open to expressions of surprise. He gives an evenhanded delivery of Guest's commentary on the growing commercial use of virtual worlds and the danger of addiction to virtual worlds and games playing.
