Synopsis
Founded in 1873, the Kennel Club is the world's oldest and leading authoritative body dealing with dog breeds and breed standards. Its system of 'universal registration' is recognised as the standard recognition of pure breeds, of which there are today some 164. This book, first published nearly ten years ago, has now been completely revised and brought up to date, and covers all the breeds in each of the six principal categories - Hound, Gundog, Terrier, Utility, Working and Toy. A history of each breed is provided, describing its origin and purpose, together with its descriptive 'standard' - a word picture or specification, which details its essential features. Each breed is illustrated with superb colour photographs.
