From the Publisher:
Fully updated to reflect the latest sociological literature about each society, particularly in areas of rapid change; New topics include family law in Egypt, the Zapatista rebels in Mexico, the impact of the Asian economic crisis on the Japanese economy, Germany in a united Europe, government resettlement policy and the !Kung Bushmen, German immigration policy, and the influence of Islamic fundamentalist groups in Egypt.
In addition to the extensive coverage on deviance found in chapters on Japan, Germany, and the !Kung Bushmen, the second edition has increased discussions of deviance in both the chapter on Mexico and the chapter on Egypt.
Chapter One on Japan has been heavily revised and reorganized to improve flow and readability, and new discussions on changing Japanese values and norms, the status of women, the extent of economic inequality in Japanese society, and attitudes toward the Japanese bureaucracy, have been added to reflect recent scholarship.
This book continues to hold the unique distinction of being the only text of its kind to offer a comparative sociological analysis of five societies in one brief, affordable book.
The second edition retains its valued pedagogical aids including engaging vignettes throughout each chapter, case studies, up-to-date statistical tables, concept summaries, recommended readings, and bibliographies.
Global Sociology is designed for active learning. It encourages students to apply sociological concepts and to create comparisons between societies those in the book and their own society.
