From the Publisher:

The four Level 1 graded readers are the lowest level (Low Beginning) of the series, featuring vocabulary controlled at the 300 word level.
The books contain grammar structures corresponding to Level 1A of the California Model Standards.
The vocabulary was specially designed for the Connect with English project and contains the most frequently used words in the English language and high frequency words from the video
The story line in Level 1 is the exact story told in the video, only simplified
The texts are lavishly illustrated with photos taken from the video, in a format similar to a comic book with text and photos given equal importance
The books can be used with the video or as a stand-alone series of graded readers
