From the Publisher:
Motivating and enticing chapter openers. Each chapter begins with a "Far Side" cartoon by Gary Larson, a clear chapter outline, and a topical vignette.
Self-contained, modular approach. All major topics in The Living World start at the top of a page. Every illustration appears on the same two-page spread where it is covered within the narrative. This way, students aren't turning pages searching for supporting visuals.
Student-oriented writing style. George Johnson-an experienced educator and author-writes in a friendly, conversational tone. His numerous analogies and examples simplify and amplify concepts for the reader.

"Explorations" CD-ROM correlation and links to other WCB multimedia products and World Wide Web sites.
Inserted throughout the text's vibrant art program are figures showing screens from Explorations in Human Biology and Explorations in Cell Biology and Genetics-WCB/McGraw-Hill's two interactive
CD-ROMs by The Living World author George Johnson. These figures, inserted into the text narrative where relevant, add dimension and foster comprehension by leading instructors and students to the interactive CD-ROM's investigations of key biological concepts.
References to WCB/McGraw-Hill's other software products-such as
The Dynamic Human CD-ROM, Microbes in Motion CD-ROM, and the Life Science Animations videos-are included at the end of appropriate chapters.
The Living World's exclusive home page on the World Wide Web allows further study in biology by providing teaching and learning tools for both you and your students.

Value-price. Full-color biology textbooks need not cost a fortune. The Living World is approximately $10 to $15 less than other comparable texts.
Thoughtfully designed end-of-chapter pedagogical system.
First, a "Highlights" summary page lists key chapter concepts and page-referenced terms correlated with the chapter's main section headings.
Next, you'll find a two-page spread containing a Concept Review consisting of multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank questions; Challenge Yourself critical-thinking questions; annotated For Further Reading; and WCB/McGraw-Hill Technology Links.
