Welcome to the world of Mogul Classics Books. In this Classic Edition of Villette by English author Charlotte Bronte, we are proud to offer you the best edition of this classic, one of the most loved and timeless stories of all times. Villette was Charlotte Bronte's fourth novel. First published in 1853, it was preceded by the posthumously published The Professor, her first, and then by Jane Eyre and Shirley. The novel is set in the fictional city of Villette (based upon Brussels) in the fictional Kingdom of Labassecour (based upon Belgium). "Labassecour" is French for farmyard. In the novel, and after an unspecified family disaster, the protagonist Lucy Snowe travels from England to Villette to teach at a girls' school, where she is drawn into adventure and romance. As you read this Mogul Classics Books edition of Charlotte Bronte's Villette, you will relive one of the most acclaimed novels of the early 19th century.

Product Description:

Charlotte Bronte’s final and most autobiographical novel—even more critically acclaimed than Jane Eyre during its time—is a brilliant story of repressed passion and unrequited love in the fictional French town of Villette

Lucy Snowe is a young woman alone in the world after a terrible event of which she never speaks. With no home, no family, and no prospects, she sets out on her own to the small French town of Villette, where she finds work as a governess at a boarding school for girls. When a handsome doctor from her past appears in Villette, Lucy believes she may at last be free of loneliness—if her rigorous self-control doesn’t conceal her true feelings.

Based on Charlotte Bronte’s own experiences at a boarding school in Belgium, Villette is an intense psychological portrait of its heroine, a woman who so strenuously tries to hide her passions that she cannot help but reveal them.

About the Author:

Charlotte Brontë (1816-1855) was an English novelist and poet. She was the eldest of the three Brontë sisters, all of whom were gifted writers. The most prolific of the three sisters, Charlotte authored a number of children’s stories as well as several novels, including Shirley, Villette, and The Professor. She published her first success, Jane Eyre, under the pseudonym Currer Bell in 1847.
