Synopsis:
This is a guide to creating women's dress from the 19th and early 20th centuries, including scaled patterns for each costume, step-by-step instructions and detailed working drawings. Patterns are also included for all the correctly shaped corsets, crinolines, bustles and petticoats to make each costume look right for its period. Jean Hunnisett's patterns have been adapted so that they can be readily made up using today's fabrics and sewing methods, and to fit the modern female figure. Jean Hunnisett has worked as a professional costume maker for the Royal Opera House, the English National Opera, the BBC and on such films as "The Slipper and the Rose" and "Joseph Andrews". She has also taught period costume cutting at the London College of Fashion. This book may be of interest to amateurs, students and professional costume makers as a source of practical patterns and techniques.
