An old-fashioned London Hotel is not quite as reputable as it makes out... When Miss Marple comes up from the country for a holiday in London, she finds what she's looking for at Bertram's Hotel: traditional decor, impeccable service and an unmistakable atmosphere of danger behind the highly polished veneer. Yet, not even Miss Marple can foresee the violent chain of events set in motion when an eccentric guest makes his way to the airport on the wrong day...

Agatha Christie was born in Torquay in 1890 and became, quite simply, the best-selling novelist in history. Her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, written towards the end of the First World War, introduced us to Hercule Poirot, who was to become the most popular detective in crime fiction since Sherlock Holmes. She is known throughout the world as the Queen of Crime. Her books have sold over a billion copies in the English language and another billion in over 100 foreign languages. She is the author of 80 crime novels and short story collections, 19 plays, and six novels under the name of Mary WestmacottFrom AudioFile:
Miss Jane Marple's holiday in London at the well-run, traditional Bertram's Hotel turns out to be more than she bargained for as her suspicions are aroused by some of the guests. Her worst fears are confirmed when the doorman is murdered in strange circumstances. With the help of clever Chief Inspector Davey, who is occupied with the investigation of a series of robberies, the complicated plot is satisfactorily concluded. Rosemary Leach so skillfully chooses voices for the characters that there is no doubt that this is exactly what the author intended each to sound like. With perfect pacing and exquisite timing, the story is seamlessly told. The delivery is so successful that one actually forgets that only one person is reading; the performance sounds as if it is being delivered by an entire cast of actors. S.S.R.
