Synopsis:
Lots of sun, a waveless sea, cheap raki, expensive carpets, even a bit of culture thrown in – to Crispin and Dodo Delancey, Turkey seems to offer a great escape from the day-to-day. Their teenage daughters, Jade and Star, clad defiantly in jeans and Doc Martens, would rather be back in Hampstead. They know they’re going to get bored.
As their mother winds down by the pool and their father is distracted by Meg, independent single mother in a dreamy gold bikini, the girls sense the chance of experiment and adventure. Josh, armed with his father’s credit card, is only too happy to lead the way.
While the young are carried away on a wave of exuberance and rebellious energy, their parents fight the complexities and sad hypocrisies of middle age. Witty, refreshing, sometimes unnerving, in this deft comedy of family life, foreign countries don’t always provide the escape they promise.
When Crispin and his family set out for a package tour in Turkey, he is hoping for a rest and a suntan. Then he meets Meg, in her golden bikini. Package tours, it transpires, are not as simple and relaxing as they seem, and the travellers find that most of their troubles travel with them.
