This book self-confessedly based upon the vicissitudes of his own family life. The Robinsons - a Christian but very human family consisting of parents plus three children aged 18, 14 and 6 - struggle to achieve the peace and harmony that should (surely) result from quite ordinary activities. Among these are Friday night: what video, what take-away, why the unwanted visitors? A camping trip: why do they do it? It always rains, there's nothing to do, and the toilets are...unmentionable. Visitors staying: the politics of the bathroom. The car journey: rows, sickness, mindless games, breakdowns. Christmas Day: Dad's neuroses, new board games and batteries, and Father Christmas. Buying clothes: oldest son's Oxfam preference, designer labels and...giving up.
