Lucy Willis shows you how to capture the magical quality of light in your water-colours with:
· practical information on water-colour techniques
· many step-by-step demonstrations
· suggestions on where to look for ideas and inspiration
Lucy Willis is renowned for her ability to portray light in her paintings. All painters in water-colour aspire to capture the effects of light in their work and in 'Light in Watercolour' Lucy provides invaluable advice on how artists can recreate this quality for themselves.
Drawing on many years of experience, Lucy Willis shows the artist how to produce paintings full of light and space – whether you decide to paint outside on a summer's morning or indoors with candlelight as your only light source. The subject is discussed in-depth and the book includes many exercises and step-by-step demonstrations for painters to try out in their own time.
Lucy also provides suggestions on where to look for ideas and inspiration – how to spot potential subject matter; occasional use of material from sketchbooks and photographs; working from memory; and, for the more adventurous painter, working from the imagination. A wide range of subject matter is also covered – still life, landscapes, figures and portraits, flowers, water and reflections.
'Light in Watercolour' is ideal for the painter who wants to create a sense of light, space and atmosphere in their work, as well as the armchair artist wishing to own a wonderful record of Lucy Willis' water-colour paintings.
Sally Bulgin gained a Bachelor of Arts degree in painting and art history at Reading University, before being awarded a Master of Arts in art history, and later a PhD for her research thesis on 1960's British abstract painting and sculpture by the Courthauld Institute, London University.
