Synopsis
This book presents authentic extracts from the internationally renowned newspaper "The Times", with related exploitation of the material. It is designed to develop general reading skills and to enalb e readers to improve their understanding of journalistic prose. All the topics have been chosen for their continuing social and cultural relevance in the 1980s, and for their international or universal flavour. The units are designed to facilitate (rather than test) understanding, and to stimulate thought and discussion. Supporting exercises and language activities inlduce pre-text exploitation of vocabulary items, micro-questions, and a wide selection of follow-up tasks.
