There was no equivalent US edition. The last work to be published by Raymond Carver before his untimely death the following year. Poems selected by the author. ***Near fine in blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still nice and bright. The boards are clean and unmarked. Head and tail of spine slightly creased, with a light vertical reading crease to the spine. Corners sharp. Edges of text-block have a few handling marks. Internally the book is also near fine, with no inscriptions. No other marks or annotations. No creases or tears. Printed on nice quality thick paper. Spine tight. ***In a very good colour-printed typographical dustwrapper, which retains the original publisher's printed price of £11.50 net. The dustwrapper is complete with no chips or tears, just some minimal rubbing and creasing at the edges, with a small nick to the bottom edge of the back panel. The dustwrapper is marked from handling, particularly on the back panel [being a pale cream background] but unfaded even on the spine. ***206 pages. 221 mm x 142 mm. ***'Raymond Carver is a brilliant exponent of the short story. His creations "can already be counted among the masterpieces of American fiction"' (New York Times). His poetry is no less impressive. "In a Marine Light," the first collection of his poetry to be published outside America, is his own selection of recent work. Like his short stories, Raymond Carver's poems show a matchless talent for taking ordinary people, ordinary scenes, and making them seem extraordinary, strange, indelible. His ear for colloquial narration and dialogue is flawless. Raymond Carver's poetry is also striking in its range and variety whether he is writing "stories" about marginal lives of quiet desperation or exuberant celebrations of love, friendship and the simplicities pf everyday life. "In a Marine Light" fully affirms his high standing among contemporary writers.' [Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper] ***A first printing of the true first edition, published in the UK by Collins Harvill. A nice copy of this final Raymond Carver poetry collection, in the original dustwrapper. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 8086
