About this Item
Hi, Here we have a rare 1916 Original Hardback Wisden, in Good Condition. The 21st Wisden Hardback and the most scarce of the 20th Century. The lettering is always an issue on 1916s , you do not see many of these books in a lifetime but with the dozen i have seen and the research I have conducted , it is known that Wisden due to the War time were struggling to gild the books (or add the shiny part to the letters), some 1916s do not have gilt to the front nor spine, some just have it on the front. You can see it , it is just not shiny in many (original) 1916s. This book has "faded" gilt , it isn't really faded just never had the gold added. The front board has a few marks as shown, the hinges are excellent and the pastedowns in good order. Internally nice clean pages but two pages have some loss , page 255/6 which makes the initals of the plays for Clifton hard to read and also page 241/2 which just about avoids any text loss. Due to this loss the price is a lot cheaper than many 1916s which internally is very nice otherwise. Small mark to page 294. This book would suit the collector that wants a 1916 hardback but doesn't want to pay top dollar for one. No restoration. Quite a few have had touch ups. Condition=7/10. Seller Inventory # 431584
