Plates V and VI are fold-out traced from the originals; the fold-out Plate IV, depicting the outside mould and accessories, model of Stradivarius, is missing. Pages 1,4,5,8,9,12,13 and 16 have been replaced by copies of those pages which have been pasted over the originals. Front free endpaper has the inscription p4 written large in blue biro. Dust jacket, which was originally a pale blue, has lost its colour except to the inside flaps, is a little grubby and has been internally repaired in places where there were a number of tears. Originally published in 1885 this is the 1978 reprint of the second edition, and is an Historical, Theoretical, and Practical Treatise on the Science and Art of Violin-Making, for the use of Violin Makers and Players, Amateur and Professional.
