Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine condition. NOT a library discard (illustrator). First Edition in English. Münich: Prestel, 2012. INSCRIBED / SIGNED and DATED ["London, 1 - 2012"] by photographer Christopher Thomas directly on the front free endpaper. SIGNED copies are SCARCE. Near Fine condition. Square and tight. NOT a library discard. NOT a remainder. A few corners of the cover are very mildly bumped, but NO pages are affected (i.e. there are NO page creases). Four or five letters on the front cover lettering have partially flaked off, as often (production problem). NOT bad -- PHOTOS UPON REQUEST. Pages are fresh, crisp, clean and unmarked. Laid-in is a letter from Hamilton's Gallery in London presenting this signed copy to a Las Vegas mover and shaker. The letter mentions that the book accompanies the gallery's current exhibition and ends with a handwritten postscript: "See you in Tokyo." Translated from the German by Kevin A. Perryman. Edited by Ira Stehmann. Bound in the original purple silk-like cloth, stamped in bright white, with a b/w photo mounted on the front. From the publisher: "From the lonely, rain-swept piazzas to silent rows of empty gondolas, one of the world's busiest and most beautiful cities lies frozen in time in this stunningly illustrated book that captures the city without people. Whether you're a first-time tourist or seasoned traveler, it's virtually impossible to find yourself alone in Venice. The city's many architectural splendors, its winding canals, ancient piazzas and charming markets are marvelous to visit -- and crowded with people in every season. In these hauntingly beautiful photographs, Crhistopher Thomas takes readers on a solitary tour of the city Lord Byron once called 'the Most Serene Republic.' As he did with his previous volume, NEW YORK SLEEPS, Thomas uses long-term exposures and a now discontinued large-format Polaroid film to capture places bereft of humans in the early hours of the day. Readers can almost feel the ghosts of Titian, Shakespeare, Vivaldi, and Henry James wandering these canals and cobblestones; and they can experience the city as it was intended to be: an ingeniously planned, aesthetically delightful oasis of beauty, light, shadows -- and serenity." Oversize Hardcover. Oblong. 12" wide by 11.25" tall. This large, heavy book will require SUBSTANTIAL extra postage for International shipments, but only the standard charge for priority or media mail. INSCRIBED / SIGNED by Christopher Thomas . First Edition in English. Oversize Hardcover. Near Fine condition/No dust jacket, as issued. Illus. by NOT a library discard. 160pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.
