Quarter Cloth. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. New York, NY, John Day, 1969. First edition. 8vo. Black quarter cloth over blue boards with silver lettering embossed on spine, blue endpapers, 267 pp. The hurt runner is Feliks Crouch, a 19 year old dwarf who lives with his rich, unmarried, neurotic mother and his manic-depressive grandmother in one of fiction's most bizarre households. Feliks is a great comic hero, with depth and humanity. He is hapless but also very intelligent. He is a classic loser, but a guardedly optimistic loser. His spirit and his humorously poignant story will not easily be forgotten. Appears unread. Fine in a very good dust jacket, protected by a mylar cover.
