Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. FIRST EDITION IN GERMAN, translated from the Danish of 1850. 8 vo. Cloth, c.1930, Orig. printed wrappers bound in. Uncut. (4), 159, (1) pp. Four lithographed plates after the author's drawings. PRESENTATION COPY signed and dated by Hannover to Dr. G. Siegmund, and with the latter's ownership signature. Later, the COPY of the 1967 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, George Wald (b.1906), with his bold signature on the front fly leaf and his rubberstamp at the Biological Laboratories, Harvard on the front wrapper. An holograph note in English signed by Dr. Max Salzmann (1862-1954), the "Father of gonioscopy" (see: Gorin, 'Hist. ophthal.', pp. 262-263), is tipped-in at Chap. X. It concerns his clarification of Hannover's description of the funiculus scleroticae (1876). A fine copy. "Danish born, Hannover (1814-94) received his medical education at Paris and in Berlin. He was a prolific author of works on microscopic technique (see this catalog under 'Microscopy') and on the anatomy and physiology of the eye. The present work is a collection of previously published articles originally offered in book form in a Danish edition of 1850. In 1856 and again in 1878 Hannover received the Monthyon Prize of the Institut de France for his investigations into the anatomy and pathology of the eye." (Becker Coll. Ophthal. 177). Hannover is credited with introducing the term'epithelioma' around 1843.
