The authors of this book have established a definitive classification for every species and subspecies of sheep, which is the first time in more than forty years anyone has attempted to do so. In the process they lay out a systematic approach for classifying both New and the Old World sheep. They provide detailed distribution maps and color photos to enhance the descriptions. For purposes of completeness, blue sheep, Barbary sheep, and tur have been included, even though they are not true sheep. Drs Mike Frisina and Richard Mitchell have spent countless days in the field studying and observing sheep in areas as diverse as Pakistan, central Asia, Mongolia, Alaska, and the western United States. They reclassify many sheep, which is sure to be controversial to some, and they offer a fresh approach to a subject matter that endlessly fascinates hunters. Main chapter headings include:- What are wild sheep?; Classification of wild sheep; Moufloniforms - Mouflon and Urial; Argaliforms - Asiatic Bighorns and Central Asiatic Thinhorns; Pachyceriformes - Siberian Thinhorns, North American Thinhorns and North American Bighorns; Pseudo-sheep - Aoudad or Barbary Sheep, Bharal or Blue Sheep and Tur; The money trail; Conservation achievements; Great sheep and great sheep hunters - photo essay; Contemporary hunting stories - Firewalkers of Mauna Loa by R. Margaret Frisina; The illusion of Norak by Hossein (Soudy) Golabchi; Hunting the King's sheep by Jack Atcheson, Sr; The grandson of "Pamir" by Hossein (Soudy) Golabchi; Collecting in China by Robert Logan; Sheepedness by Hubert Thummler; Revolutionary sheep by Henry van den Broecke; Siberian snow to the Caspian desert by Robert Logan; Never in my wildest dreams by Dennis Campbell; Dall ram No.10 by Duncan Gilchrist; Montana Bighorn quartet by Jack Atcheson, Jr. .

"This is the story of the extraordinary hunting career of the legendary India-domiciled Irishman, Jim Corbett. In his book Peter Byrne retraces Jim Corbett's hunts for the famous man-eating tigers and leopards of India and Nepal, it is written from the perspective of someone who actually lived Corbett's life. Peter Byrne is an ex-professional big-game hunter who lived and hunted man-eaters in the same areas as Corbett did so many years ago and who actually went to the places where Jim Corbett shot his man-eaters. Byrne's intuitive remarks on the man and his hunts offer insights that would be beyond the scope of the average Corbett enthusiast. Illustrated with pictures taken at the sites of Corbett's great hunts in the man-eating tiger country of northern India and western Nepal, the book also includes text and photos from people who knew or hunted with Corbett, including relatives of the victims of the man-eaters. Gentleman Hunter is full of stories that illustrate the bravery and valor that exemplified Corbett the man and Corbett the hunter. Byrne imparts to the reader an understanding of the soul and spirit of that intrepid defender of the hill people of northern India and western Nepal". Although it is nowhere stated, this is a new edition of Byrne's Shikari Sahib, with a different set of photographs and a new foreword by James Mellon. .

This is Robert Foran's account of elephant and rhino hunting in the area sandwiched between Uganda, the Sudan and the Congo in the years between 1902 and 1912, including the six-month free-for-all when Belgium ceded the territory to the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan. Foran was one of the few poachers who saw a financial return from the area, being simultaneously wanted for poaching by the British and Belgian authorities. Although Foran wrote his account fifty years ago, it was only published posthumously in 1981, in a limited edition. This is the first widely available edition of this work. .
