Trade paperback. Condition: Very good. Trade paperback (US). Glued binding. 64 p. Artwork in B&W. Audience: Children/juvenile. Classic children's picture book first published by The Viking Press, 1948, and reprinted for generations of blueberry gatherers. Pre-schooler (maybe) Sal and her mother grab their tin pails, head for Blueberry Hill. to pick lots of berries for preserving. Little Sal was dedicated to picking and eating her berries while her mother put her bucket to more productive use. Tiring, Little Sal wfound a berry bush to sit down at and eat berries. Her mother kept moving. On the other side of the hill, a mother bear and cub were intent on consumption of berries, too. Mothers and offspring soon were switched, as blueberries were gathered. Mothers figured out what to do, and all went their separate ways. Endpapers illustrate a country kitchen of the 1940s.

Trade paperback. McCloskey, Robert (illustrator). 1st published 1941. Trade paperback, folio. Glued binding. 23x31 cm. 72 p. Illustrations in brown ink. Audience: Children/juvenile. The delightful McCloskey illustrations are as they appeared in 1941, set in Boston on a small island in a public pond selected from the air by Mr and Mrs Mallard when looking for a home for their family. They flew down for the night, and found the next morning people were tossing them peanuts from a large vessel powered by a very large bird. It was a Swan Boat, a big attraction for rides on the pond in Boston Garden. The Mallards found exploring beyond the pond was a dangerous exercise: bicycles, cars, people. So they flew overhead to search. Where could their anticipated babies hatch and be safe? Aha, a vegetated island on the big Charles River was perfect. Exploring off the island, a new friend, Michael the Policeman fed them peanuts. After 8 duck eggs appeared, Mrs Mallard kept them warm. In this story, read what they were named, how they were taught by their parents, and where they found Michael who helped them cross the street. Enchanting blend of city life and the natural order for ducks. A classic! Very good. Lower right front corner light creasing.
