Topics covered include: the geology of the area; the resident flora and fauna; farms, villages, towns and cities; early man in the Peak; mining, mills and factories; farming and reservoirs. Appendices deal with the fish and bird life, nature conservation sites and ramblers clubs. Many good pictures of the area in the days before holiday cottages, masses of traffic and big roads. "Since the first edition a number of changes have occurred in and aroud the Peak National Park, most of which affect the human occupation rather than the natural environment.
