"In 1986 the Migration Museum was opened buildings which formerly had been the Women's Quarters of the Adelaide's Destitute Asylum. The Migration Museum's brief is to present the history of immigration which has led to the development of the cultural diversity of South Australia. Whilst researching the origin of the Destitute Silent it was discovered that part of the site had been used for four years as a Female Immigration Depot. It was the pressure of thousands of women, all penniless, many pregnant and alone, which had prompted the colonial government to build special quarters which later included a Lying-in Home and Mothers' Wards. One of the permanent displays in the Museum is about the women and children who had lived behind the high Stonewall on Kintore Avenue in the Destitute Asylum." -- from the foreword page 5. The high moral principles of Buddhism, when adopted and adapted by the Japanese warriors who became the Samurai, created an austere philosophy of singular beauty and depth. Its characteristic requirements of strict control over body and mind was exemplified by ancient warrior monks whose serene countenance, even in the face of certain death, made them much admired even by their foes. Zen may be the most misunderstood of the world's moral philosophies. While it is often classified as a Religion, it is frequently considered by its adherents to be a utilitarian philosophy, a collection of rational moral precepts or, even more simply, as a state of being. The aim of the practice of Zen is to become Enlightened and achieve the beatitude of Nirvana. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilogram. Category: Religion & Theology; Japan; History.
