Item Description: iUniverse, United States, 2009. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 152 x 229 mm. Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.This is the story of my life as a child growing up with a pioneer Mother. My mother, Dixie Smith was a unique woman who taught her children the gift of never giving up. Dixie and the Kids tells the story of how we moved to Oregon and built our own log cabin, how we made ends meet, and how we loved and laughed along the way. The story is told through the eyes of my family members and of our many animals, however, the memories are mine. We were referred to by friends, neighbors and family as "Dixie and the Kids," and we were a true team. This story is a tribute to my other teammates: Dixie, Ronald and Eugene. Donnale Harp currently lives in Rancho Cucamonga, California, just a stones throw away from where she was born in San Dimas. She has come full circle by returning to her birthplace. She enjoys spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and still loves to get the giggles. Bookseller Inventory # AAV9781440190056

Item Description: Arcadia Publishing (SC), United States, 2012. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 231 x 165 mm. Brand New Book. Mexican American Baseball in the Inland Empire celebrates the thriving culture of former teams from Pomona, Ontario, Cucamonga, Chino, Claremont, San Bernardino, Colton, Riverside, Corona, Beaumont, and the Coachella Valley. From the early 20th century through the 1950s, baseball diamonds in the Inland Empire provided unique opportunities for nurturing athletic and educational skills, ethnic identity, and political self-determination for Mexican Americans during an era of segregation. Legendary men s and women s teams--such as the Corona Athletics, San Bernardino s Mitla Caf, the Colton Mercuries, and Las Debs de Corona--served as an important means for Mexican American communities to examine civil and educational rights and offer valuable insight on social, cultural, and gender roles. These evocative photographs recall the often-neglected history of Mexican American barrio baseball clubs of the Inland Empire. Bookseller Inventory # AAC9780738593166

Item Description: Arcadia Publishing (SC), United States, 2011. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 231 x 165 mm. Brand New Book. Located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains near the southern end of the Cajon Pass, Rancho Cucamonga has served as a natural crossroads for those traveling to and from Southern California. In 1776, while freedom was being declared on the east coast of North America, Spanish explorers were meeting native Cucamonga Indians for the first time. From that point on, Spanish missionaries, pioneers, gold miners, immigrants, settlers, and businessmen traveled through Cucamonga on the Mojave Trail, the Old Spanish Trail, the Santa Fe Trail, El Camino Real, and more recently, former U.S. Route 66. While some continued on, others stayed and built farms, vineyards, and more. Italian immigrants, attracted by stories of Cucamonga s ideal soil and climate, planted vast vineyards of Italian grape stock and produced many world-famous wines. Although Cucamonga s heyday of grapes and winemaking spanned a century, little wine is produced today. Now Rancho Cucamonga attracts people as an excellent place to live. Money magazine placed it in the top 100 in its Best Places to Live rankings in 2006. Bookseller Inventory # AAC9780738575001

Item Description: AUTHORHOUSE, United States, 2009. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 229 x 152 mm. Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.Capt. Enrique (Henry) Horta was born the third child of the Horta Family in Ventura California. He grew up in other cities such as, Los Angeles, Watsonville, Cucamonga and San Diego. While spending some of his teen years in Mexico he learned about survival and the importance of appreciating and doing the best of what resources he had. When he returned to California he was a skinny kid with dreams and plans to be a Pilot, traveler and adventurer. His wild dreams of becoming an Astronaut and going to the moon where replaced by more realistic dreams such as wanting to become an Airline Pilot. When he turned 18 years old, he parted from his parents and had to join the working rat race starting out as a bag-boy at a local Safeway store. His plans to finish College were halted by his travelling bug so he took a break from school, sold his motorcycle, and went back-packing to Europe with only $1,000.00 Dollars in his pocket, a Euro-Pass train Ticket for a month, and a return airplane ticket home. Fatherhood in Germany at a young age made him become more responsible and serious about his dreams. He didn t return alone to California and was now a young family man while working as a carpenter in construction and attending evening University and Flight School on weekends. His hard work, scholarships, grants, and student loans paid off and he graduated with an Airway Science Degree in addition to all his Pilot ratings and Certificates. Thereafter, his life became more of an adventure and he travelled around the world working for various Airlines as a Contract Pilot. Bookseller Inventory # APC9781438928159

Interest in the practice of spiritual direction has grown in recent years. With the increased number of people seeking direction have come a number of new issues confronting spiritual directors. This volume of essays by seasoned spiritual directors from a variety of faith traditions addresses issues of concern to directors today such as direction with: abused persons, the poor, church drop-outs, and gays and lesbians. Other essays look at spiritual direction in new contexts, such as the congregational setting, the corporate arena, spiritual direction and generational issues, and direction at the turn of the century. The final section of the book addresses some specific circumstances: working with the addicted, with those who are dying, using art in spiritual direction, and direction and social justice.
