Nach einem kurzen Vorstellen des Nationalparks und seiner Besonderheiten, wird den Fragen nachgegangen, was die Begriffe Nachhaltigkeit und Ökotourismus bedeuten, wie die Strategien für einen nachhaltigen Tourismus aussehen und welche Diskrepanzen es im Bereich Naturschutz und Tourismus gibt. In Anbetracht der Tatsache, dass ein Nationalpark Destination und Naturschutzgebiet zugleich ist, besteht das Ziel dieser Arbeit darin, zu klären wo die Toleranzgrenze der lokalen Bevölkerung im Hinblick auf die touristische Entwicklung in der Region zu verorten ist. Die Fragestellungen werden auf Grundlage der Auswertung geeigneter Fachliteratur und Befragungen der Bewohner diskutiert. Expertengespräche stellen eine ergänzende Informationsquelle dar.Die soziokulturelle Tragfähigkeitsanalyse zeigt vor allem, dass Ökonomie eine große Rolle im Nationalpark spielt. V.a. die zwei Themenschwerpunkte Kultur und Politik werden von den Teilnehmern der Befragung sowohl als Hoffnung, als auch als Gefahr für die touristische Entwicklung angesehen. In einer Handlungsempfehlung wird deshalb geraten, diesen Problemen durch ein Bewusstmachen der Kultur, eine veränderte Marketingstrategie und durch eine stärkere Zusammenarbeit der betreffenden Akteure entgegenzuwirken.
