Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Stated 'First Edition, 1992.' Sequel to Doctor De Soto, winner of the Newbery Honor Award. You can see the green covers of the book in the photos. They are exceptionally clean. I don't see any soiling. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. The cover edges and corners look perfect. The spine ends look very good as well. The page edges are very clean. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The inside covers and end papers are closest to a lilac color, I believe. They are in very nice shape. All the pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any instances of soiling. There is a fairly inconspicuous little crinkle just off the top edge of the pages, no more than 1/4" inch and visible, to my eye, only on the rear side of the pages. There are no creases, no turned-down corners or placeholder creases. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. The illustrations, which are on all the pages are charming, and in excellent condition. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It is very clean, two specks on the rear cover and one on the spine. There is only one little tear, just off the top edge of the front. There is some rubbing just off the top edge of the spine, also tiny spots of rubbing at the corners. The yellow flaps are clean, no tears, no creasing. The jacket is NOT price-clipped ($15.00), not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are scanned. From the dust jacket: 'It's business as usual at the office of Doctor Bernard De Soto, the world-renowned dentist, when a cablegram arrives, begging him to come to Africa and work his wonders on Mudambo, an elephant who has an unbearable toothache. The kind-hearted dentist and his wife, Deborah, sale for Africa right away. Before he can help the suffering elephant, Doctor De Soto is kidnapped by a vindictive rhesus monkey. But in spite of everything, the De Sotos come through, and Mudambo's tooth is as good as new when they finally go on their way.'.
