BUONE/OTTIME CONDIZIONI GENERALI, MAI SFOGLIATO; MACCHIETTE/FIORITURE E SEGNI DEL TEMPO. RARO. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First edition. Tall octavo. 347pp. Topedge lightly foxed else fine in a lightly rubbed and worn, about near fine dust jacket with a bit of creasing at the spine ends. Minister and Civil Rights activist George Houser's copy, with his (and his wife's) ownership signature on the title page. Beautifully Inscribed by Washington to Houser: "To Brother George Houser, Precious Friend in this Great School + Sterling Exemplar of Christian Service: May these prayers always be a source of inspiration. We have truly learned how to be better disciples and citizens because of your perseverance in the Faith. We are grateful that you have forgiven Union Theological Seminary for abandoning you. We are grateful for your rich insights into the early years of the Civil Rights Movement. With love, respect + appreciation, Jim Washington. 5/6/96." Houser, who is white, was a Union Theological Seminary graduate, co-founder of the Congress of Racial Equality and founder both of the American committee on Africa and the African fund. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a member of ACOA's national committee and corresponded regularly with Houser. He dedicated his life to Civil Rights both in America and in Africa. An excellent association and a remarkable inscription.
