Occasional foxing and spotting. Two minor stains on title. Tear in inner margin on p. 113. A few contemporary marginal notes and underlinings. Partly printed on blue-toned paper. In this famous but even for its time outdated work, Wallerius tried to explain the creation of the world as it is decribed in the Old Testament, with the help of the modern sciences. Wallerius argues for a cosmology in which the world has been created from water and light and refers to several thinkers from the mystical tradition, among others. The book was widely appreciated in its time and was translated into German, French and Italian, among other languages. A Latin edition was published in 1779.
