Book
Hardcover. Condition: VG. No Jacket. Photos, Maps (illustrator). 1st. Of the British Army units serving in WWII, among the most notable was the Seventh Armoured Division which entered the conflict in North Africa in May 1940. It was created from a number of units stationed in Egypt when war broke out. With obsolete and inadequate equipment and machines the 7th was an important element of the little force available to confront the Italian Army of more that 200,000 men in North Africa. The division took part in all the important Desert campaigns and battles and then went on to Italy, landed in France on D-Day, fought its way into Germany and took part in the Victory Parade of Allied forces in Berlin after the Garman surrender. The Desert Rats had a long war, reverses as well as successes but they were still there at the very end in Europe. Major General Verney has excelled in telling their WWII story. First edition of 1954, 312 pages including six appendices and index, 21 b/w photos, 18 maps, e/paper maps. Black hard covers are VG with the red "Desert Rat" divisional sign impressed on front, ink name top FFEP, text block otherwise excellent.
