Hardcover. First Edition, First Printing. pp. 378. Folio, measuring 10.5" x 13.5". Original, textured, gray cloth over boards featuring red, white, and black lettering and likeness of Shevchenko to the spine, and front board, respectively; charming illustrated endpapers in a distinctly Soviet art-deco style, with red-and-blue ribbon-marker. Tipped-in colour frontispiece of Shevchenko, attributed to Soviet artist, Yury Iliich Repin (1877-1954). Text printed in Ukrainian, in double columns adorned with black-and-terracotta head-and-tail pieces throughout. Accompanied with various black-and-white, in-text, line drawings, and twenty-four stunning, full-page, colour lithographs as commissioned from various contemporary Soviet artists including contributions from such noted Soviet illustrators as, Vasily Kasiyan, A.D. Basilevich, M.G. Deregus, amongst others. Exceedingly rare in commerce, and amongst institutional holdings, our offering being the only extant copy available at time of cataloguing.
