23.5x31.5cm, landscape format. German language, in Frakturschrift. pp(2)15(1) plus 43 plates of full-page outline illustrations. Title-page with decorative border, two-column text (the poem and explanations of the plates) with ruled borders. Original brown cloth binding detached from book-block, hinges broken at both front and rear endpapers. Backstrip worn with loss. Covers rubbed, with wear at corners and lighter wear along edges. Front cover paper title-label rubbed, a little chipped at edges, quite deeply dust-soiled, and with black ink-spot of diameter up to 0.5cm. Edges of text-block age-toned and dust-marked, top edge also with narrow ink-stain of length 1cm. Endpapers a little dust-marked, toned and spotted; rear flyleaf also creased, and neat gift inscription dated 1845 on front pastedown. Title-page, text and margins of plates variably but mainly lightly spotted, with toning towards outer edges; faint spotting affecting just a few images. A number of creased and/or furled corner tips throughout, no text or illustration affected. Binding of shabby appearance; contents reasonably clean and tight, with full complement of plates.
