Richard Brinsley Sheridan was an Irish satirist, Whig politician, writer and owner of the London Theatre Royal. He is best known for his famous play, 'The School for Scandal', which is widely regarded as one of the greatest comedies of manners written in English. In half calf binding with gilt detail. Externally, very smart with some light rubbing to the extremities. Some fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age-toned but otherwise very bright and clean. Leather. Condition: Very Good Indeed. Not Stated (illustrator). A smart collection of the dramatic works of the notable playwright Sheridan, with a memoir of his life. An early edition of this work in a full calf binding with gilt detailing to the boards and spine, and marbled end papers and fore edges. Richard Sheridan (1751-1816) was an Anglo-Irish playwright who owned the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane in London. His most well-known plays, which are featured in this collection of his dramatic works, are The Rivals, The Duenna, The School for Scandal and A Trip to Scarborough. Also included in this volume are St. Patrick's Day, The Critic, Pizarro and Verses to the Memory of Garrick, with a memoir of the life of Sheridan. In a full calf binding. Externally fairly smart, with rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for offsetting to the title page and the odd spot to the first and last few pages. Very Good Indeed. book.
