An edited reprint of 'The Mayor's Kalendar', or register, a document that was originally compiled by Bristol town clerk Robert Ricart in the fifteenth century. The work consists of six parts, giving a comprehensive history of England, especially the city of Bristol, a list of the civic officers, and details of the city's local and social customs.Edited by Lucy Toulmin Smith, a nineteenth-century antiquarian and librarian, and published for The Camden Society.Containing three illustrations, collated and complete.Including two bookplates of previous owners to the front pastedown, one for Harold E. Matthews and one for William Thomas.This copy came from the library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire, the previous home of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). She was an English socialite and through her mother was the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. In full red cloth binding with gilt stamping to the spine and front board. Externally, very smart, with some slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and minor shelf wear to the boards. Two bookplates of previous owners to the front pastedown. Internally, front hinge starting but firm. Front hinge is also starting to page i, but still firm. Otherwise, binding generally firm. A few spots to the fore-edge, not affecting the pages, which are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed. book.
