Book
Soft cover. Condition: Good. Limited Edition. Limited to 200 copies in blue wrappers, of which this is number 128, small quarto, pp. 38 plus colophon. Letters eulogizing Pulsifer on the occasion of his death. No location or publisher noted, but Portland, Maine, Bradford Press. A photo of Pulsifer is mounted on title page. Laid in is a copy of a typed sheet of correspondents, including Ethel Roosevelt Derby (Daughter of Teddy Roosevelt) and Katherine S. White (Mrs. E. B. White). We noted that there are more letters in the text than writers listed on the sheet, which caused us to wonder if there were perhaps a second sheet of correspondents originally, but now missing. A search of OCLC returned copies at Brown, Colby, Columbia, and University of Virginia. The copy at Columbia notes there are two sheets, but the copy at Brown states that it "lacks the (single) leaf identifying the correspondents." University of Virginia's copy also notes a single "leaf identifying the correspondents is inserted." Glued to the final page of the volume at hand is an affectionate note, dated December 1948, from Pulsifer's widow, Susan, to "Francis," who is likely Francis Gilbert, Pulsifer's Pomfret School and Harvard classmate, whose letter appears first in this book. GOOD condition with some mild shelf and handling wear. A rear panel nick in the wrapper at crown of spine. Note that in a couple places, brackets are placed around a formal name and the signee's familiar name is written beside.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Tamplin, Valerie (illustrator). 1st Edition. Gilt lettering on tan covers in a tan pictorial dust jacket. 8vo, 182pp. The adhesive used to attach the cover paste downs has bled through the paste down paper, discoloring it. This is not "foxing". I have inserted appropriately sized slips of white paper inside of each cover which may, if the purchaser desires, be fastened over the discolored past downs. .I suggest asking a librarian, conservator, or art supplier for a recommendation of adhesive. The text & sketches are fine. The dust jacket is only good, having tears at the spine ends and one at the top of the front panel. The illustrated DJ front panel is attractive, with no damage to the illustration or text. A very enjoyable book!.
