Dark orange boards lightly soiled with light wear at corners, shallow chipping at spine head with heel worn even with text block's bottom edge, spine's rubbed surface paper re-adhered to underlying backstrip with peeling still slightly evident lengthwise along rear joint. A good copy of a very uncommon book by the scion of a famous Greenville, Mississippi planter family. IN APRIL ONCE was Percy's second book following SAPPHO AND LEVKAS AND OTHER POEMS (Yale, 1915) and enjoyed moderate success with second and third editions published by Yale in 1925 and 1928 respectively. Percy is most famous for his 1941 book LANTERNS ON THE LEVEE which features his reminiscences of student days at Harvard and of life in Greenville and the Mississippi Delta spiced with impressions of Yankees and reflections upon race relations in the South.
