These years, from 630~680, not only transformed a whole vast region, but ensured that the pattern of life in the Middle East would never be the same again. Muhammed and his immediate successors, these Arabs who started from nothing, decided the framework of many things for thirteen hundred years. The fantastically short time in which this empire was built up, the simplicity of its administration, and the victories won through burning religious zeal and desperate courage by relatively untrained and unorganized armies, make for exciting reading. No one~volume history has ever covered this remarkable material before, and The Great Arab Conquests is made vivid and relevant by John Bagot Glubb's knowledge of the terrain, his gift for seeing modern parallels, the care he has taken not to assume background knowledge of the period on the part of his readers, and the new maps he has personally prepared. Just as he learned Arabic as a living language, so the author has set down this history as something that came alive for him while he lived, traveled, and fought in the mountains, deserts, and valleys which are its setting. The Great Arab Conquests is a history that John Bagot Glubb is uniquely qualified to reconstruct.

International postal rates are calculated on a book weighing 1 Kilo, in cases where the book weighs more than 1 Kilo increased postal rates will be quoted, where the book weighs less then postage will be reduced accordingly. The brilliant thing about this book is that it merges and yet distinguishes among the different sources of information we have about Mohammed's life. Thus, information from the Quran is very accurate, since it was written contemporaneously. The various biographies, histories and oral traditions are questionable because they were written down 100-200 or more years after Mohammed's death. This is very significant today, because the Quran makes it clear that Mohammed got along well with Jews and Christians, and even honored them for their devotion to the Scriptures. By contrast, the Islamic terrorists make their erroneous claims by referring to histories and traditions that were written down centuries after Mohammed's death, and reflect the writer's views rather than Mohammed's views. Glubb's book weaves all of these sources of information into a fascinating narration of Mohammed's life, but at the same time he indicates the source and validity of the various stories, especially the sensitive ones. That's what makes this book valuable today. Ref YYY 5.
