Book First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Wrappers. John Julius Norwich (John Julius Cooper, Viscount Norwich, 1929-2018) published the first selection from his entertaining commonplace book, "as a sort of glorified Christmas card", in 1970, subsidizing it by selling a few copies through two friendly booksellers. After the first year's sold out, he increased the print order for the next year's, "in a reckless burst of optimism", from 200 to 300. Since then, there have been three anthologies of his selections, an anthology of his anthologies (illustrated by Quentin Blake) and a CD, and A Christmas Cracker as a theatre performance. But there is no substitute for the original elegant yearly pamphlets in their assorted (mostly) patterned covers.

Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. 6th Impression. Hardback. Old Men Forget. Foxing to end inside covers. Previous owners names and date to inside cover. Wear and tear to edges of D/J. Browning to spine and edges of D/J. Price clipped. In this book Lord Norwich, better known as Duff Cooper, tells with commendable brevity the story of his life. His childhood, his education at Eton, Oxford and abroad, his work in the Foreigh Office, his military service in the Foreign Office, his military service in the First World War, twenty years in the House of Commons - where he helf the offices of Financial Secretary to the War Office and Treasury, Secretary of State for War, First Lord of the Admiralty, Minister of Information and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, all come under review, and the book closed with the end of his last appointment, that of British Ambassador in Paris in 1947. The writer has succeeded in recounting this very full life in a manner calculated not to weary the reader with unwanted information or to leave him with the impression that anything has been concealed. Illustrated. 400 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
