Pamphlet. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. 50pp The Cold War led to restrictions on the freedom to travel - the British government banned foreign delegates and visitors to Peace conferences, National Assembly of Women etc. even though the same people could visit this country privately. This pamphlet describes how British visitors to the Berlin Youth Festival were turned back in Europe at the instigation of the British authorities, how a charter plane was banned and how some were detained at bayonet point by American soldiers, kept on the tracks all night, had luggage destroyed and in one case a youth was assaulted.

No locations indicated at WorldCat and including Library and Archives Canada. A note at the beginning of the book says that the compilers felt the need for a hymnal that would be suitable for their "evangelistic labours." Likely only a limited run was printed for them, and sold at their meetings.Douglas Russell was born at Old Cummock, Ayrshire and was saved at the age of nineteen, at the time of the Great Awakening in Scotland. The gospel first came to what is now the Cambridge area in 1868. Mr. Douglas Russell, an evangelist from Scotland, came to the Galt area where he had relatives. In Galt, Ontario, and began outdoor preaching with success. In 1873 Mr. Douglas Russell returned to Canada and worked in the Clyde area. In the fall of 1874 gospel meetings began, first in the schoolhouse and then in the blacksmith's wagon shop. Following the gospel meetings, regular study of the word of God commenced, which led to the truth of baptism and gathering to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ being understood. On Sunday, October 30, 1875, the Christians remembered the Lord for the first time in the blacksmith's wagon shop in the Village of Clyde.Rev. George C. Needham was an Irish born Baptist evangelist closely attached to the Prophetic Conference movement in the United States and Canada. He was present at the 1878 Prophetic Conference held in New York City and was a speaker at the International Prophetic Conference held in Chicago in 1888. He wrote the Introduction to James Brooks' Bible Readings on the Second Coming of Christ, According to the Scriptures. He appears in Williams' James H. Brooks: A Memoir, p. 167, where he is among those who gathered at Niagara-on-the-Lake as an informal meeting of evangelists who supported premillennialism, which became the Niagara Conference. William Cameron Chewett's Toronto printing business was renamed W. C. Chewett and Company in 1861. Throughout the 1860s the company printed and published important works, most of a decidedly "practical" nature, such as local directories, railway gazetteers, religious tracts, legal and medical works, and textbooks. His firm in 1869, sold to Copp and Clark and changed its name to Copp, Clark and Company making this one of the last books published under the name W. C. Chewett and Co.
