This book is autobiographical and almost journal and is about the author's search for her individualism and purpose. She was raised in the Christian Science Church and was confronted with her faith as well as all the issues facing young mothers caring for their children in the fifties and sixties who wanted to know about themselves. They struggled to find their own voice, striving to free themselves from the power of the patriarchy. Women searched in the darkness, creating their unique selves as they took step after step toward the light of consciousness. Jan's story is one such example of what women as well as men are facing in today's world. Jan MacLaren received a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology and has worked as Clinic Coordinator at the Jung Institute in San Francisco. Patricia Sohl, author of the Preface was Curator of Research Archives at San Francisco Jung Institute. Contents are in Four Parts: Sam, Dr. Philip Lane, Dr. Margo West, and Dr. Michael Caldwell all of whom were practitioners or analysts the author was seeing at various life stages. The author now lives in the Northwest where she continues to write.
