Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Joseph Papin (illustrator). Book Club Edition. This version (ostensibly for children) of Bulfinch's Mythology, with a foreword by Robert Graves and drawings by Joseph Papin, was first published by Nelson Doubleday in 1968. The fact that the only date in the book is that copyright date of 1968, does NOT mean that this edition was published in 1968. The International Collectors Library was Doubleday's book club series, reprinting "great classics" in the manner of Everyman's Library, Oxford World's Classics, and others of a similar ilk. They were undated. This title could have been issued close to the first edition of 1968; could have been quite a bit later. The faux leather binding is very slightly edgeworn, there's some browning to the gutters of the endpapers, but a very good copy.

First published in 1855, Bulfinch's Mythology has introduced generations of readers to the great myths of Greece and Rome, as well as time-honored legends of Norse mythology, medieval, and chivalric tales, Oriental fables, and more. Readers have long admired Bulfinch's versions for the skill with which he wove various versions of a tale into a coherent whole, the vigor of his storytelling, and his abundant cross-references to poetry and painting, demonstrating the relationship of literature and art. Now The Age of Fable, the first section of the Mythology, is available in this inexpensive, highly readable edition. Drawing on the works of Homer, Ovid, Virgil, and other classical authors, as well as an immense trove of stories about the Norse gods and heroes, The Age of Fable offers . Source: Publisher.
