stiff paper wrappers. Goldsmith, Oliver (illustrator). 8vo. stiff paper wrappers. (iii), 50 pages. A Paper Read before the Bibliographical Society, October 15,1917. This is a reprint from the Society's Transactions. These letters had been collected by Bishop Percy of Dromore who was almost an exact contemporary of Goldsmith's and a member of Dr. Johnson's "Club" along with him. After Goldsmith's death in 1774, the impression was that Johnson would write a biography, but never did. Percy was convinced to undertake the writing. Dr. Johnson's collection of and notes about the Goldsmith family letters came to Percy from Johnson's executors. These were later found by Clarke in Percy's papers. The wrappers are quite worn, some foxing and numerous small tears and one closed tear about 3" in length. A few pages are lightly soiled on the fore edge.
