Hardcover. Condition: Good. Green cloth binding. Ex-library with neatly removed spine label; otherwise, some wear to edges and extremities; gilt stamping to front cover and spine a bit dulled. Good binding. Library due slip and pocket in the front of the book (front free end page and paste-down). This book was donated by the religious writer Reverend Frank S. Dobbin, with two notices of this on the front fly leaf, which has detached, I am unsure if this is his signature (they are identical). These from end pages are very worn, fragile and tanned. The balance of the book has light age toned paper, clean and unmarked. 279 [1], 15 b/w photographic plates, plus adverts in back.

Binding square and tight. Soiling to edges but generally clean within. Presentation label on front endpaper. B/w plates. A 'Good' copy. A biography of Dr. Gershom Whitfield Guinness, written by his sister Geraldine Taylor, both of whom were protestant missionaries in Henan province, China. On his arrival in 1900, he was forced to escape the Boxer Rebellion or Yihetuan Movement. He is best known for his letters home during this period and the subsequent book of his experiences.
