Original Wraps. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Jacket, as Issued. First Paperback Edition. A first printing of the first UK paperback edition - Penguin Catalogue No. 1103 - priced at 2/6 on the front cover - published 28th July 1955. One of ten books to appear together in Penguins in July 1955 to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Collins Crime Club (Nos. 1099 - 1108), and the second of three novels by Farrer featuring her detective Richard Ringwood. ***A very good copy in illustrated green and white card wrappers, with the 1950s style vertical stripes. The covers have some marks and creasing commensurate with age and handling but are largely clean and unmarked. No major faults - just some light rubbing and creasing to the edges of the covers. The spine has some light reading creases and there is a very slight reading lean to the binding. No fading to the covers, just some light browning at the edges. Internally the book is also very good, with no inscriptions and no serious creases or tears - just the top corner tips of a few pages slightly creased. The paper stock is only slightly tanned with age. No foxing. Issued without a dustwrapper. ***267 pages plus 4pp of publisher's adverts at the back of the book. 180mm x 110mm. ***A first printing of the first Penguin paperback edition of this classic crime novel by Katharine Farrer, in very nice collectable condition.
