Dark green illustrations on front cover of people canoeing and riding by dog sled. 6" x 8." 267 pages, complete. Thirty-four black-and-white illustrations, complete. List of Illustrations in the front. Pages are very clean and intact except for minuscule age toning and occasional, small marks. A Very Good copy. The first book written by Egerton Ryerson Young (1840-1909), a Canadian Methodist missionary and author. Emphasis is on mission work in Canada to evangelize Indigenous people, but Young also writes about the customs and cultures of the Cree and Saulteaux (Ojibwe) tribes, local scenery in the wilderness, and his various travels in Canada. Mark Guy Pearse (1842-1930) was a Cornish Methodist preacher and author. He was very well-known in his time and wrote a number of devotional books. In 1887, the two actually met in Meaford, Ontario, where Pearse was captivated by Young's stories about his mission work and encouraged Young to write about them.
