Condition: Fair. 1933. First Edition. 319 pages. No dust jacket. This is an ex-Library book. Blue cloth. Black and white photographic plates throughout with colour illustrated frontispiece. Ex-Library copy, with expected inserts and inscriptions. Slight cracking to gutters causing binding to be loose, however pages remain attached. Pages have light tanning and foxing throughout. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Moderate sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends.

The second volumes of the biography, by his son the 2nd Earl, of Frederick Edwin Smith, 1st Earl of Birkenhead [ 1872- 1930 ], for whom the peerage was created. He was a noted Conservative politician, one of the most highly paid barristers in the pre First World War period & was Solicitor General & then the Attorney General. He is however, perhaps better remembered as being Winston Churchill's closest friend until Smith's untimely death in 1930. Woods B21. 650 grams.
