Front board lightly foxed, endpapers foxed. 1905 Hard Cover. 137 pp. Frontispiece and illustrations by Frederick Simpson Coburn, introduction by Louis Frechette. About the author: William Henry Drummond (April 13, 1854 ? April 6, 1907) was an Irish-born Canadian poet. He was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature of the United Kingdom in 1898 and a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 1899.

Wear to boards' tips. Spine sunned. Internally in excellent condition. Spine is paper that mimics vellum. Gilt vignette on front board. Gilt top edges. Fore edge and bottom edge are untrimmed. Frontispiece and 12 leaves of plates. Boards are grey-brown with gilt-stamped cover title and illustration. Title page in red and black. Each plate has tissue guard with caption in red. William Henry Drummond was a very popular Canadian poet of humorous French-Canadian dialect (patois) poems about rural life in Quebec.

Full-Leather. Condition: Like New. First Edition. Green 'velvet calf' (suede) with yapp edges. Text block measures 19 cms and binding 21.5 cms in height. PRISTINE. Book as new, no wear - appearing as it did fresh off the press. A splendid and exceedingly rare example of the first edition of the poems of William Henry Drummond, 'one of the most widely-read and loved poets' in Canada. With frontispiece portrait of the author and copyright signature. Kept within the original box which is a little worn with three of the box joints cracked and some rubbing to the rear panel, but otherwise good and sound with title label stating 'Collected Poems of Dr. W. H. Drummond, velvet calf - yapp.' The box label differs from the title on the book binding, Dr. Drummond's Complete Poems, and differs again from the half title-page in the book, The Poetical Works of William Henry Drummond. xxxiii+449 pages. The Dr. William Henry Drummond Poetry Contest was established in 1970 more or less as a result of this first collected edition [("Dictionary of Canadian Biography" Volume XIII (1901-1910)]. Extremely scarce in this state of binding and condition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Book.
