This look at the County of Warwickshire is sub-titled "The Land of Shakespeare" with the final two of 12 chapters devoted to this great playwright. Others follow the county history from the earliest times, before turning to important centres, ancient and prominant buildings and "the story and romance of some South Warwickshire's monor-houses." The first edition, of 1906, had 75 illustrations and was reprinted in 1912. This second, revised edition was published 1922 featuring 32 magnificent full page colour paintings by Fred Whitehead, one map. Blue hard covers have impressed title, coats of arms at front, gilt spine titles with impressed arms VG, light wear spine extremities/corners with lower front corner bumped. Book dealer stamp lower left FFEP, text block otherwise excellent.

Blue cloth boards with coloured designs and gilt lettering on front and spine. Spine is bumped, worn and faded, head and tail frayed and nicked, with a few tears up to 15mm. Board corners bumped and worn. Gilt top edge, rough-cut fore edge. Binding intact, but a bit loose with cracked front and rear hinges.
