in-8 (13x21cm), demi-chagrin de l'époque, dos long, titre à l'or, plats papier marbré, 393p. Ex-libris.

First Edition
8vo. pp. 2 p.l., 393, [2]table. with half-title. 2 folding aquatint plans. contemporary quarter calf (joints cracked, ink deletion on title). from the library of noted bibliophile Alexander William Crawford Lindsay, twenty-fifth Earl of Crawford and eighth Earl of Balcarres [1812-1880] with 'Bibliotheca Lindesiana' bookplate. First Edition. Louis Henri Joseph, Duc De Bourbon and the last Prince de Condé [1756-1830] was found on August 30, 1830, hanging by his neck from the fastening on his window in the château Saint-Leu. The year before his death he had drawn up a will naming the duc d'Aumale as his heir, and making considerable bequests to his mistress, the barronne de Feuchères. Murder was suspected, and the princes de Rohan, who were relatives of the deceased, instituted proceedings to dispute the will. This account of the judicial investigation into the Prince's death was prepared by the lawyers acting for the baronne de Feuchères to counter a prejudicial publication issued by the princes de Rohan one month before the hearings took place. The judicial opinion was that the Prince had committed suicide. The NUC entry calls for a frontispiece portrait, not present here; there is no evidence of one ever having been removed.
