Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. SCARCE 1889 Hardcover Edition produced by Keystone Publishing Co of Philadelphia. This re-publication of Andersson's mid-1850s original edition with Keystone's distinctive and striking decorated embossed-cloth cover is not common. This copy shows well, in generally very good condition; exterior is attractive with minimal edge rubbing; gilt and black-ink embossing remains striking; some fading of embossed titles at spine while still legible. Two handwritten inscriptions on first inside endpage: former owner's name with 1891 date; and a below gift inscription to a different person "in remembrance of" the former owner, dated 1894. Binding is generally firm with slight looseness at p.292, but all pages are holding well. A solid copy of a very hard-to-find edition. 433 pages with numerous engravings as illustrations. Introductory letter by John C. Fremont. This 19th century saga of African adventure and hunting is legendary in its genre.
