David is a young boy living in Harlem who has a very mischievous wire-haired fox terrier named Rinty. Rinty is always getting away during the day and following David to school. He chews carpets, and knocks over things in stores. David tries hard to find a way to keep Rinty while paying for the things the dog breaks, but eventually his father says the dog must go. How David bravely lets his dog go to another owner but finally gets him back makes for a very charming story.
